Understanding Attraction, Attachment, and Relationship Patterns

Why are we repeatedly drawn to certain people?

From a systemic and attachment-based perspective, we often do not choose our partners purely consciously, but largely on an unconscious level.

Many of the dynamics that attract us in relationships are rooted in early relationship experiences, emotional conditioning, and unmet childhood needs.

People who touch familiar emotional wounds or relational patterns within us can feel especially intense or “right.” At the same time, these are often the very relationships that trigger us the most.

Because relationships are not only about closeness and connection, they also tend to bring old defense mechanisms, fears of loss, and unresolved emotional experiences to the surface.

The more consciously we begin to understand these dynamics, the more possible it becomes to step out of old patterns and experience relationships in a new way, not from unconscious wounds, but from presence, understanding, and genuine connection.

From Old Patterns to Deeper Connection

This is one of the reasons why we can feel so triggered in relationships and believe that our partner is the cause of our emotional reactions.

But have you experienced these feelings in previous relationships, too? Or do they go back even further, to your childhood?

Most of us first learned about relationships through what we saw and experienced in our family homes. We observed how our parents treated each other and how they treated us, unconsciously forming beliefs about what love means. To experience love, closeness, and recognition, we developed certain strategies.

These early experiences often continue to shape us well into adulthood. Through Inner Child Work, we explore the feelings, needs, and beliefs from our childhood that are still influencing us today. The systemic approach also helps us understand the family dynamics and relationship patterns in which these beliefs and behaviors developed.

Every trigger can be an invitation to look deeper: What is being touched within me right now? Which past experiences lie beneath this feeling? And most importantly, what does my inner child need in this moment? What was missing back then for it to feel safe, seen, and loved?

When we begin to give our inner child what we needed back then, old emotional wounds can begin to heal, and protective strategies can gradually lose their hold on us. Instead of automatically reacting from past experiences, we can learn to recognize our emotions more consciously and find new ways of responding to them.

By understanding our old patterns and beginning to meet the needs behind them, we create space for change. We no longer have to repeat the same dynamics, but can discover new ways of relating to each other and build a relationship rooted in trust, ease, honesty, and a genuine sense of togetherness.

How We Can Work Together

In our work together, we create a space where you can connect with yourself and each other in a new way. Rather than focusing on who is right or who needs to change, we explore both partners’ perspectives, feelings, and needs.

We look at what happens between you, which dynamics keep repeating in your relationship, and how you can approach them differently in everyday life. I support you in communicating more consciously, expressing your needs and boundaries, and staying connected even in difficult moments.

This allows you to create new experiences together and discover what a relationship can feel like when both partners can show up as they truly are, without having to hide parts of themselves or change each other.

The goal is to find a way forward where you can stay true to yourselves while developing a deeper, more authentic connection with each other.
